Our History
Underwriters Insurance, through the Cameron family, has served Powell River and the surrounding area for nearly 50 years. In 1972, after moving from Vancouver, Scotty and Grace Cameron chose to establish Underwriters Insurance and call Powell River’s amazing community “home.” They set up shop in a small office on Marine Avenue. Their son, Michael, joined Underwriters in 1982. In 1994, the office moved to its current Joyce Avenue location. Mike’s son, Scott, joined the office full-time in 2013.
Mike and Scott manage the current staff, which includes five additional licenced insurance brokers and an administrative professional. Most of our current brokers have at least 10 years of industry knowledge and experience to share with our clients.
We strive to give our clients the very best insurance experience each day. Personal service is at the heart of our business. We recognize the importance of community, and we actively support many local groups and charities.

Michael Cameron

Mike started his insurance career at the age of 21, and he obtained his Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker designation in 1990. Mike enjoys volunteering his time to various community groups. He currently serves as a director of Powell River Community Futures. He has previously served as a director of the Powell River Chamber of Commerce, the president of the Powell River Curling Club, and the president of the Myrtle Point Golf Club.
Scott Cameron

Scott was first employed at Underwriters as a summer university student in 2009. Upon graduation in 2013 with his Bachelor of Business Administration from Vancouver Island University, he began working at Underwriters with his father on a full-time basis. He obtained his Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker designation in 2015. He strives to bring a fresh approach and new ideas to the management of the business.
